Black Widow released in theatres and on Disney+Hotstars on July 9.
The controversy regarding Black Widow just doesn't seem to end. The lead actor Scarlett Johansson and the production company Walt Disney had a heated exchange of words, her agent Bryan Lourd, who is also Creative Artists Agency (CAA)'s co-chairperson, has now reportedly spoken up on the matter.
"Scarlett has been Disney's partner on nine movies, which have earned Disney and its shareholders billions," Bryan pointed out in a report by Deadline.
He claimed that the company made her salary public 'in an attempt to weaponize her success as an artist and businesswoman'.
Scarlett filed a lawsuit on July 29 accusing Disney of breach of contract. The movie was initially supposed to release in theatres and have a 90-day window before releasing on Disney+Hotstar. However, the film eventually released on both the platforms on July 9. The same is quoted as the reason that the film underperfomed at the Box Office, as compared to other Marvel movies.
Disney responded to the same with a press statement in which they even revealed her salary. They did so while stating that she would be 'able to earn additional compensation' apart from her fee thanks to the move.
Black Widow was ready for release in 2020 but had to be delayed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is likely to mark Scarlett's last film with Marvel as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow.
The Cate Shortland directorial examines Natasha's childhood and relationship with her parents and sister.
