The actor played Bobby Axelrod on the show, a self made billionaire and CEO who resorts to illicit methods to grow his wealth.
After five seasons of ruthlessness, charity and questionable money making, Bobby Axelrod has bid adieu to Billions. It was recently announced that actor Damian Lewis will no longer be a part of the show.
The final episode of the drama’s latest season featured the shrewd CEO’s dubious activities of making millions for his company finally catching up with him. His not-so-gracious exit saw him cut a deal with rival billionaire Mike Prince, all the while the law enforcement was on his tail.
Axelrod’s departure was captured in his dialogue “So this is what it is to lose.”
Billions’ executive producer and co-creator Brian Koppelman took to Twitter to give the star a proper farewell, and added that it was a joy working with Lewis on the show for five years.
Koppelman also praised the Emmy winning actor for his work and sacrifice on the show as well. Lewis’ wife, Peaky Blinders actress Helen McCrory had passed away earlier this year.
Billions revolves around the story of a ruthless hedge fund manager and CEO willig to go to any lengths to add to his fortune, and the US defence attorney is bent on catching him making a wrong move.
In addition to Lewis, the show also stars Paul Giamatti, Maggie Siff, Malin Åkerman, Jeffrey DeMunn and Corey Stoll. The American drama series has also been renewed for a sixth season, which will reportedly premiere in January 2022.
All five seasons of Billions can be streamed on Disney+Hotstar.
