Vivek Oberoi had played the antagonist Bobby in the Prithviraj Sukumaran directorial which had Mohanlal in the lead,
Chiranjeevi and Biju Menon
Megastar Chiranjeevi’s fans were treated to the title and logo of his upcoming movie Godfather, which is the Telugu remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Lucifer, on his birthday a few days ago. Now, we hear that the movie will have a Malayalam presence too – with Biju Menon set to star as the antagonist in the Mohan Raja directorial.
According to reports, Biju Menon is set to play the role of Bobby in Godfather. Vivek Oberoi had essayed the main antagonist Bobby in the Malayalam movie, which was directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and had Mohanlal in the lead. Vivek’s character was that of a businessman with an interest in drugs and arms smuggling, using his political connections.
As Mohan Raja had earlier tweaked the script to match Chiranjeevi’s star status, it remains to be seen if Biju Menon’s character is similar to any of the antagonists in the Malayalam films such as those played by Sai Kumar or Kalabhavan Shajohn. Biju Menon had earlier acted in two Telugu movies such as Ranam and Khatarnak in 2006. The actor, whose performance in Ayyappanum Koshiyum was lauded after its OTT release earlier last year, is among the top character actors in Mollywood. His recent film was Aarkkariyaam, which also had Parvathy Thiruvothu and Sharafudheen.
Incidentally, a few years ago, when Chiranjeevi’s production house had bought the remake rights of Lucifer, the megastar had mentioned that he had approached Prithviraj to helm the film too and also offered him a role in Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. Both didn’t come to fruition as the latter was busy with other projects at the time.
Godfather also has Sathyadev and Nayanthara in pivotal roles. It’s also rumoured that Bollywood superstar Salman Khan could play Prithviraj’s role from Lucifer in Godfather. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding this or Biju Menon’s casting in the movie, which is currently being shot in Hyderabad.
