Sreejith N is part of two films that have pulled off a casting coup of sorts – Mohanlal and Prithviraj’s BroDaddy and Biju Menon and Nimisha Sajayan’s Oru Thekkan Thallu Case. While the Prithviraj directorial has him as a co-scriptwriter, the latter will mark Sreejith’s directorial debut.

Talking to OTTplay, the debutant filmmaker tells us, “Oru Thekkan Thallu Case is a fun movie, a family entertainer. It’s a story told on a big canvas. As it is set in the 80s, it’s a period drama. Right now, I am busy with its pre-production and we hope to begin the shoot by August end, if the situation is favourable.”

The movie, which is based on GR Indugopan’s literary work, also has Roshan Mathew and Padmapriya in pivotal roles. On roping in Padmapriya, who is making her comeback in Malayalam, Sreejith says, “Padmapriya plays a strong female character and we wanted someone like her to portray the role right from the time we started scripting. We didn’t have too many options in her age group and so we wrote it with her in mind. When we narrated the story, she agreed to do it.”

Biju Menon plays Amminipillai, who is the protagonist, and Padmapriya plays his wife Rukmini. On getting Nimisha and Roshan, who now have a pan-Indian appeal due to their OTT releases such as The Great Indian Kitchen and C U Soon, the filmmaker says, “Right now, there has been a change in the audience, unlike in the past where we tried to cater to those in theatres alone. So, we also had to look at those factors during the casting. Fortunately, we were able to rope in some of the best actors in our industry right now.”

On Bro Daddy, Sreejith says that his co-scriptwriter Bibin Maliekal and himself have finished their part for the film, which has Mohanlal, Prithviraj, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Jagadeesh, Lalu Alex, Meena, Kaniha and Soubin Shahir. “We began shooting in Hyderabad on Thursday. The genres of both movies are poles apart. Lal sir will join only a week later,” he says.
