The latest season, which will be livestreamed 24/7, will premiere tomorrow
One of the most popular Malayalam reality shows, Bigg Boss is coming back for its fourth season this month. Like the previous seasons, the makers are keeping many details about the show under tight wraps until its grand premiere. Here’s what we know about the popular reality show so far.
Host and contestants
Mohanlal, who had hosted the previous three seasons of the show, returns to his hosting duties for the latest season as well.
As with previous seasons, the makers have not revealed who the contestants of the fourth season will be. However, that did not stop fans from speculating who they might be. The names floated about include actress Lakshmi Priya, snake expert and conservationist Vava Suresh, musician Jassie Gift, comedian Sooraj Thelakkad, fitness trainer and public figure Jasmine Moosa and actress Dhanya Mary Varghese. The full list of contestants can be confirmed only after the show’s premiere. It is also being speculated that the show will involve 17 contestants initially, not including the later wildcard entries.
House and Location
This season takes place in Mumbai’s Film City. The previous two seasons had taken place in Chennai. Bigg Boss Ultimate, the OTT version of the Tamil version of the reality show, is currently being filmed in Chennai.
Premiere and platform
Season four of Bigg Boss Malayalam will premiere tomorrow, on March 27, at 7 PM. The show can be viewed on Asianet and can be streamed on Disney+Hotstar.
What’s different this season?
For the first time in the Malayalam show’s history, this season will be available for streaming on Disney+Hotstar 24/7.
This time, the Bigg Boss house will reportedly be different from the previous seasons. In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, a spokesperson for Asianet revealed that this season’s sets and house has been designed by Omung Kumar, who had helmed the National Award winning film, Mary Kom starring Priyanka Chopra. Kumar had also served as the art director on popular films such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya (2007) and the Rani Mukerji-Amitabh Bachchan starrer Black (2005).
Abhishek Mukharjee, who serves as the project head of the show’s fourth season, had told TOI that the house this year would look similar to the one found in the show’s Hindi and Marathi versions. It would also have a balcony and a tree inside as well. He had also teased that some more surprises regarding the house were also in store.
Previous seasons and winners
In the first season of the show, Sabumon Abdusamad had emerged as the winner, with Pearle Maaney being the runner up.
The second season had to be suspended after 75 days, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a winner had not been declared
The third season also had witnessed disruptions during its run as well, but had picked up where it left off. Actor Manikuttan had won the third season.
