When the new showrunners of Bigg Boss Kannada announced that the milestone 10th edition would be special and have a happy, festive mood about, audiences were thrilled. But ever since the contestants went into the house, the show has been anything but happy. The atmosphere inside the house on most occasions is short of being a war zone, what with contestants literally at each other’s throats. Amid all the animosity, the showrunners have also been trying to paint some contestants with a sympathetic brush, like, for instance, Drone Pratap.

Agreed that the youngster, who is best known for his allegedly fraudulent claims of making drones and seeking patents for his work, has been at the receiving end of some unsavoury comments, but the way the live telecast and the daily episodes are being engineered, fans feel that Pratap is getting special treatment from the showrunners. Earlier, being in the Bigg Boss house was about being cut off from everyone and everything in the outside world, so that the contestants would not be influenced by how audiences react to their behaviour on the show.

But on this season, in particular, there is an open line of communication between contestants and their families. While Varthur Santhosh’s time outside the house, during the tiger claw pendant issue, should have been reason enough to not let him back in, since he became aware of how he and the rest of the contestants were being perceived by audiences, he has not only returned, but is being denied the opportunity to leave, even though he has asked to quit. In fact, the showrunners got his mother to come and convince him to stay back. This part there have been festival special visits, to letters from family that were given only to members of the team that won a particular task, and now, there’s Pratap’s phone conversation with his father.

“This is the most scripted and worst season of the show. Doesn’t anyone else have a family? Why is only Pratap being highlighted? Just declare Pratap the winner already,” tweeted Akshath Chintu. Another user added, “Bb makers are using Drone and Varthur Santhosh to the core to mint the trp . Whether it's negative or positive both have mass following than other contestants.” Yet another chimed in, “prathap is master in doing all this CRYING and emotional drama.. previous experience is helping him.” Most fans of the show who have been tuning in religiously are, however, put off by the special treatment given only to a few contestants, which is not right, they say.

Meanwhile, given that the India-Australia World Cup Cricket finale could affect viewership on Sunday’s elimination, it is happening on the weekend panchayat with host Kiccha Sudeep tonight. The buzz is that there will be a double elimination, with one announced today and another tomorrow. Rapper Eshani’s name is doing the rounds as of the eliminated contestants.
