Bigg Boss 16 kicked off in a very grand manner indeed. On its grand premiere on Saturday Salman Khan unveiled the contestants who would grace the show’s latest season, and director Sajid Khan was one of them. During his introduction, the filmmaker spoke of the ups and down in his career.

Sajid spoke of how he had been sitting at home for the past few years, and his aim of going into the Bigg Boss house was to learn more about himself. He believed that he would become a nicer and humbler person if he learnt how to do work in the Bigg Boss house by himself, rather than getting staff to do it in his own home.

The filmmaker talked about the number of ups and downs he saw in his life over the past couple of years, and how he had built a connection with television audiences that goes back for almost three decades. Calling himself a ‘public servant’ of entertainment, he said that that ‘connection’ he’d had with audiences had become broken and he wanted to reestablish it with Bigg Boss.

When Salman had remarked how a certain sense of ‘arrogance’ had come into Sajid after working with renowned actors and directing a number of hit films, the latter wholeheartedly agreed. “There’s a saying that failure destroys people. But in my case, success destroyed me. I had become very arrogant. I had three hits back to back, and I’d thought I’d become infallible, that I’d never be able to make a bad film”, Sajid said.

Sajid went on to speak of how God had put him in his place with the lacklustre performances of his films Himmatwala and Humshakals. The latter had even made him hide his own ‘shakal’, Sajid joked, before going on to talk about how he had his ‘credit’ snatched from Housefull 4 after being kicked out of the film.

“I just feel like this is all God’s way of telling me that you have to become a slightly more nicer person”, added Sajid.

Bigg Boss 16 can be streamed on Voot.
