Inspiration behind the series

Talking about the series, Nitya Mehra revealed that Big Girls Don't Cry is a tribute to her happiest years. It's a tribute to the young women who inspire her every day, her sisterhood, and her closest friends.

Watch Tejas, Expendables 4, Australian Open, Cubicles 3, and more on OTTplay by subscribing to the Jhakaas monthly pack, which provides access to 22 OTTs for just ₹249 for the first month.

The concept for Big Girls Don't Cry came from Nitya when Sudhanshu Saria was in Kolkata, seeing his niece deal with the unique and bipolar lunacy of a teenager. He served as the film's executive producer, writer, and co-director. By working on this series and penning these stories, he was able to reassure his niece that she was not going through it alone. Indeed, coming of age is no picnic, and here's hoping the series becomes a big embrace for all the teens out there who are still finding their way.

Karan Kapadia remarked that the series is an ode to the best days of their lives when they grew up. From the best years of one's life to the friends they will always consider family, through the bonds of friendship and sisterhood, the highs and lows, the profound impacts on their spirit, and, finally, the day they will finally know who they are!

Big Girls Don't Cry was a deeply personal and emotional experience for co-director Kopal Naithani. Her own experience as a girl going to an all-girls boarding school brings back wonderful memories of her formative years spent with her female classmates as they weathered the transition to womanhood together. The show is about a group of young girls' coming-of-age, and it celebrates sisterhood, innocence, friendship, and the pain of losing one's innocence.

Executive producer Ashi Dua added that this story delves into the formative years of the girls as they navigate an environment that encourages them to reach their full potential without imposing any predetermined expectations. As they journey through teenagehood, they're supporting each other, fighting together, and free-falling through the vibrant youth.
