"The approval we have found from the community makes us feel that what we had done is right," said Bhumi Pednekar.
Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao's comedy-drama Badhaai Do released in cinemas on February 11 and received appreciation for the depiction of LGBTQ+ persons on screen.
In an interview with Pinkvilla the actor spoke about why she chose to star in this film. "The team had come to YRF, there were about 10 – 12 people who had come to give the narration. By interval, I had made up my mind that I am doing the film and by the time we reached climax, I was convinced of my decision. There were various films where I had the opportunity to play a member of the LGBTQIA community, but there was nothing that dealt with the subject with so much sensitivity. The treatment here is comedy, but by the end it really hits you (sic)."
She added that for the film's team love from the LGBTQ+ community was important and "the approval we have found from the community makes us feel that what we had done is right."
Badhaai Do, a spiritual successor of Badhaai Ho, follows to Rao and Pednekar's characters who enter a lavender marriage to avoid pressure from their families.
The film also features Seema Pahwa, Sheeba Chaddha, Lovleen Mishra, Nitesh Pandey, Shashi Bhushan and Chum Darang.
Bankrolled by Junglee Pictures, Badhaai Do is directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni while Akshat Ghildial and Suman Adhikary have written the story.
