On Monday, the cast of Bhoot Police unveiled the first look posters of the male leads Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor. Although the Sacred Games star is not on social media, his wife and actor Kareena Kapoor Khan did the honours on his behalf. However, the poster featuring Saif did not go well with a few netizens who called out the makers and threatened to boycott Bhoot Police.
Twitterati claimed that the poster is allegedly hurting Hindu religious sentiments. One of the tweets read as "In the #BhootPolice poster ...why the Hindu sadhus been displayed.. why not paster or clerik... Hope #SaifAliKhan not been learnt from Tandav... We are now itself #boycottbhootpolice... @DisneyPlusHS."
While another user tweeted, "#SaifAliKhan was part of #Tandav web series which was Boycotted being against #Hindutva. Now I think #SaifAliKhan is real #Bhoot. In the #BhootPolice poster ...why the Hindu sadhus been displayed.. why not paster or clerik... #boycottbhootpolice #BoycottBollywood."
There are several similar tweets and reactions on social media that called for a boycott of the film.
The horror-comedy will soon be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar. Along with Saif and Arjun, the film also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam as the female leads. Bhoot Police is directed by Pavan Kirpalani and produced by Ramesh Taurani and Akshai Puri.
Earlier, the film was set for a big-screen release in September this year. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the makers have opted for a direct-to-OTT release.
Bhoot Police will be Saif's second OTT release after Amazon Prime original Tandav which streamed earlier this year. It will also be Arjun's second digital release after Sardar Ka Grandson which is a Netflix original film.
