The horror-comedy marked the actor’s fourth hit from his past five releases and also infused a new lease of life to the Bollywood industry
Kartik Aaryan has hit a purple patch of sorts while his contemporaries’ movies are yet to find the same kind of success that he has done in the past few years. With his latest release Bhool Bhulaiyaa crossing the Rs 100 crore mark during the weekend and still going strong, the young actor has decided to hike his fee from his next signing onwards.
The horror-comedy, which also has Kiara Advani and Tabu, marked Kartik’s fourth hit from his past five releases. A report by Bollywoodlife claimed that the actor, who had been earning Rs 15-20 crore per film, will now be charging Rs 35-40 crore.
Kartik, however, was quick to react, with a Twitter post. “I have been promoted in life, but haven’t received an increment,” he wrote, calling the rumours “baseless”.
Considering the new lease of life that his latest hit has lent Bollywood, which has been slow since the pandemic except for Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and The Kashmir Films, we would say Kartik deserves the hike. The box office has lately been dominated by South releases such as SS Rajamouli’s RRR, Prashanth Neel’s KGF: Chapter 2 and Allu Arjun’s Pushpa – all of which breached the Rs 100 Cr mark within a week of its release.
Meanwhile, Kartik, himself, is gearing up for the release of a South remake with Shehzada. The movie, which is the official Bollywood remake of Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, also has Kriti Sanon, Paresh Rawal and Ali Asgar as part of the cast. The family entertainer is expected to hit theatres in November.
He has also wrapped up shooting for the romantic thriller Freddy, which is produced by Ekta Kapoor. The film is helmed by Shashanka Ghosh, who had earlier helmed Veere Di Wedding.
