The movie, directed by Amal Neerad, is the megastar’s highest-grossing Mollywood venture ever
For all those who couldn’t catch Mammootty and Amal Neerad’s record-breaking gangster-thriller Bheeshma Parvam in theatres, the film is all set to make its way to an OTT platform in April. The movie, which has already gone on to become the highest grossing film in Malayalam this year, will begin streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
The film, which is inspired by The Godfather and Mahabharat, revolves around Mammootty’s character Michael and his family. Michael, who renounces marriage to look after his family, is a godfather of sorts, ruling the Anjootti family with both fear and respect. After a few members of the younger generation have a problem with his ways, they seek outside help to eliminate him. How this impacts the family form the rest of the plot of this gangster thriller, set in the late 1980s.
Bheeshma Parvam, which marks the second collaboration between Amal and Mammootty after Big B in 2007, also has an ensemble cast featuring Soubin Shahir, Shine Tom Chacko, Sreenath Bhasi, Dileesh Pothan, Nadiya Moidu, Anagha and Veena Nandakumar. The film also marked the final collaboration of Nedumudi Venu and KPAC Lalitha, both of whom passed away.
The film’s satellite and digital rights were sold to Asianet and Disney+ Hotstar for a record sum. The movie, which released in theatres on March 3, went on to become Mammootty’s highest grossing film ever with earnings of over Rs 85 crore from worldwide box office. Bheeshma Parvam was also the first film this year to be screened at 100% theatre occupancy. This also benefitted the movie, which was shot entirely during the pandemic.
Bheeshma Parvam will release on April 1 in Disney+ Hotstar. Mammootty, meanwhile, will also have another OTT release a week later with Puzhu set to drop on Sony LIV on April 8. The family thriller, directed by Ratheena PT, also has Parvathy Thiruvothu as part of the cast.
