Saiju Kurup's latest film, Bharathanatyam, released on Amazon Prime Video and Manorama Max recently. Despite a dismal theatrical run, the movie has been receiving favourable reviews after making its digital premiere. The family drama is praised and watched by many because of its heartfelt performances and characters, although it has a predictable plot .

Reasons to watch Saiju Kurup's Bharathanatyam

Simple yet light-hearted plot

Born into a 'well-respected' family in their neighbourhood, Sashidharan is the eldest child of Bharathan Nair. However, the family must struggle to maintain their good name and deal with the moral dilemmas that arise when his father becomes ill and asks to see his second wife and son as one of his final requests.

Relatable moments in Bharathanatyam

The filmmakers have done an impressive job of capturing the issue of an ordinary family that is continuously concerned with how other people perceive them, particularly in a situation that might negatively impact their reputation. Without any dramatic flair, they have collected the common notion in our society that one must sacrifice all emotions and ties to one's family in order to safeguard one's reputation. There are several scenes in the movie that viewers can identify with.

Humour that works well

Situational humour also works effectively in this film because it has a lot of convincing performances and characters. It is entertaining to watch how Sashi handles the situation with maturity throughout the whole movie. There are plenty of light-hearted scenes throughout the movie thanks to the supporting actors.

Performances by the entire cast

The film deliberately tries not to overuse dramatic elements from the cast. Sai Kumar skilfully balances the film's emotional and hilarious parts, while Saiju Kurup plays the film's mature son Sashidharan with ease. The former also does a flawless job of portraying the conflicted parent, whose actual personality is shown at the arrival of his second wife and son.

The remaining performers give excellent performances; Kalaranjini and Sreeja Ravi are especially noteworthy. The charming portrayal of the nosy neighbour by Abhiram Radhakrishnan makes one think they may have met someone like Subhash at some point in their lives. The cast as a whole gives strong performances that adequately advance the story.
