Based on the tragic Muzaffarpur Shelter home case, Bhakshak, with its hard-hitting story, was releaased on Netflix today. It seems to have instigated society’s consciousness to seek justice for the innocent victims. Starring Bhumi Pednekar as reporter Vaishali Singh, a strong female protagonist, Bhakshak revolves around the sexual abuse in a girls’ shelter home and the events following the haunting revelation. Netizens hailed Bhumi Pednekar’s performance and the inspirational crime drama.

The Bhumi Pednekar starrer had a digital release on Friday on Netflix. The actress has been receiving rave reviews for her portrayal of a determined journalist seeking the truth. Twitter users shared their initial reviews after watching the film and urged others to watch the soul-stirring crime drama that promises to evoke self-consciousness in an ignorant world.

Many Shah Rukh Khan fan pages have also applauded the superstar's efforts in telling an inspirational true story. The project is backed by his Red Chillies Entertainment and guided by producers Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma. Netizens dubbed the film a mirror to society because it narrates riveting injustice and hightlights social commentary.

Set in the fictional small town of Mannawarpur, Bihar, Bhakshak is about an aspiring journalist, Vaishali Singh (played by Bhumi Pednekar), who learns about the sexual, physical, and mental exploitation of young girls in a shelter home. She then decides to seek justice despite a powerful leader and political agendas standing in her way. The narrative revolves around a rotten society that is blinded by power and a corrupt system. It also stars Aditya Srivastava, Sanjay Mishra, Sai Tamhankar, and Surya Sharma.

While most of the reviews for Bhakshak are favourable, some users feel that the ending was rushed. However, nearly every viewer showered praise on Pednekar for her exceptional acting skills. “Worth watching for Bhumi Pednekar's performance and the social commentary,” an X user shared.

Giving a shoutout to her sister, the younger Pednekar wrote on her Instagram story, “Proud of you, Bhumi; you’ve outdone yourself, and we are so proud of you. Bhakshak is one of the most important films of our time! A must watch."

Bhakshak is currently streaming on Netflix.
