Bhairathi Ranagal: The Shivarajkumar-led film is the prequel to Mufti, delving into how his character came to be a dreaded crime boss.
Earlier today, when Century Star Shivarajkumar’s social media pages announced a Bhairathi Ranagal update later in the day, the immediate thought was that the team had frozen on a release date for the film. Bhairathi Ranagal was, after all, meant to be an Independence Day release and was then pushed ahead, albeit with no firm date in sight. September 2024 is all that the team has said so far, although, it is being speculated that it will likely clash with NTR Jr’s Devara. As of now, the only Kannada film that has confirmed September 27 as its release date is Murphy.
However, when the update came a little while ago, it turns out that it is for the film’s title track release. The first song from the Ravi Basrur album for Bhairathi Ranagal will be out on August 10 at 5 pm. The title track announcement included the hashtag #RanagalInSeptember, so, it seems that the team has a date in sight, which should be announced shortly. This week, images of Shivarajkumar dubbing for Bhairathi Ranagal were making the rounds on social media.
Shivarajkumar's Bhairathi Ranagal first verdict confirms September release
Bhairathi Ranagal, directed by Narthan, is the prequel to Mufti, which starred Shivarajkumar and Sriimurali. In Mufti, Sriimurali was an undercover cop Gana, tasked with collecting incriminating information about a local crime boss called Bhairathi Ranagal (Shivarajkumar), who, as it turns out, was a saviour to the people of a particular village. While he does uncover is that Ranagal, despite his heavy-handed ways, was also doing a lot of good for his people. Gana eventually gets Ranagal to surrender and head to prison, only to find out that the latter knew all along that he was an undercover cop.
Shivarajkumar admits that he was hesitant to play Bhairathi Ranagal in Mufti
The prequel will delve Ranagal’s life before he became the black panche clad crime boss. Shivarajkumar is paired with Sapta Sagaradaache Ello fame Rukmini Vasanth in the film, which also stars Rahul Bose as the main antagonist. In earlier conversations with the media, Shivarajkumar had said that Bhairathi Ranagal would serve as a prequel and sequel, delving into what the character has been up to since his incarceration, but the film’s poster only hint at it being more of an origin story.
