The actress made her debut with Maine Pyar Kiya, which also starred Salman Khan.
Ever since making her Bollywood debut in Maine Pyar Kiya, Bhagyashree has never looked back. Through the course of her three decade long career, the actress has been a part of a number of films and television shows. But it seems that Bhagyashree initially did not intend to venture into acting at all.
In conversation with Mid Day, the actress revealed that she had no intention of being an actor at all. She said that she never realised how important Maine Pyar Kiye would be in her life, as the film changed the trajectory of her career aspirations.
Opening up about how she got a role in the film, Bhagyashree spoke of how she had been the ‘first and last choice’ when it came to selecting a heroine for the film. She did not even have to give an audition for the role, as director Sooraj Barjatya was very keen that she should play the leading lady in the film.
It was only by chance that Bhagyashree said yes to the role, but during the course of filming, she had fallen in love with the acting profession. “Maine Pyar Kiya’ simply changed my life forever”, she said.
The actress revealed a few interesting trivia from the film as well, revealing that none of the shots in the film took more than three takes. Even the dance and fight sequences were able to be wrapped up in three or less takes, she said.
The 1989 film saw Bhagyashree share the screen with Salman Khan. The actress revealed that before Salman was selected for the role, a number of actors, such as Sanjay Kapoor, Kunal Goswami and Prosenjit Chatterjee had also auditioned for the film as well. The actress also revealed that Lata Mangeshkar, who sang a number of songs for the film’s soundtrack, had recorded all of her tracks in the span of one day.
Maine Pyar Kiya is available for streaming on ZEE5.
