Eddie Murphy is back as Axel Foley in the Beverly Hills Cop revival, 30 years after his last appearance.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F
Eddie Murphy reprises his role as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F so the synthesisers may begin. The fast-talking Detroit cop is finally taking on a new case after an absence of nearly 30 years. Back in Beverly Hills, Axel F. sees Axel on patrol with old and new friends—and perhaps even family—in the role of Beverly Hills cop.
The Beverly Hills police force has welcomed Murphy's Detective Axel Foley back. Following a death threat against his daughter Jane (Taylor Paige), Foley teams up with his old friend Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), his new partner Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and their mutual acquaintance Taggart (John Ashton) to intensify the investigation and uncover a plot.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer remarks to Tudum that Eddie is a phenomenal performer. Whatever role they need him for, he can provide both drama and comedy, just like Axel Foley. He has not yet left the streets, but he will continue to carry out his duties. One gets wiser, of course, as they age; however, a glint remains in his eye.

That is to say, Axel's effectiveness has only increased over the past several decades. Murphy, too, has done so. One of the funniest parts of Axel F is when Eddie is improvising, director Mark Molloy says. As an executive, he felt it was his responsibility to surround Eddie with talented individuals and foster an atmosphere that would bring out his finest performance.
Since his first jaunt in 1984, Axel has made multiple returns to Beverly Hills, but each time he finds that the city has transformed alongside him. In comparison to Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, Bruckheimer remarked that Detroit is a much different city. The sights people see strolling down Rodeo Drive still captivate him in the same way.
According to Molloy, the cultural disparity that made Axel an outsider in the '80s is still so vivid when discussing their scouting journey from Detroit to Beverly Hills. They could be the most diametrically opposed locations in the US.
Both new and returning actors are in the latest flick. Returning from the first two films are Murphy, Judge Reinhold (who plays Billy Rosewood), John Ashton, Paul Reiser (who plays Jeffrey Friedman), and Bronson Pinchot (who plays Serge).
In terms of new associates, Taylour Paige portrays Jane, Axel's daughter. Casting Axel Foley's daughter is their goal, and the difficulty level is high, says Molloy. She spotted that same sparkle in Taylour's eye, that contagious energy and enthusiasm that Axel possesses, as well as someone who could challenge Axel, which is no easy feat.
The film will see Kevin Bacon as Captain Cade Grant and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Detective Abbott. They have faith that Axel will avoid offending any of them. Meanwhile, Molloy recalls seeing it for the first time when he was a child in Australia. Like everyone else, even in Australia, he had an Axel Foley poster hanging on his bedroom wall.
July 3 marks the arrival of the new Beverly Hills Cop on Netflix, nearly four decades after the original made its theatrical debut.
