The Indian entertainment world had a fantastic journey in 2023, with some well-made films and shows getting released on both the theatres and across the digital platforms. As you may know, the OTT platforms have clearly made a solid foundation after the pandemic wave across the world and is now co-existing with the big screens in the most beautiful manner.

When it comes to the streaming services, Disney+ Hotstar remains one of the most famous platforms, which produced some highly entertaining and thought-provoking content in 2023.

Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo

The drama series which is created by renowned filmmaker Homi Adajania, revolves around a matriarch named Savitri aka Rani Baa, who operates the largest drug cartel in South Asia. Dimple Kapadia plays the role of Rani Baa in the much-loved Disney+ Hotstar show, which features a stellar star cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Deepak Dobriyal, Monica Dogra, Isha Talwar, Angira Dhar, Radhika Madan, Varun Mitra, Ashish Verma, and others in supporting roles.

Loki Season 2

The highly anticipated second season of the Tom Hiddleston-starring popular show premiered on Disney+ Hotstar, in November 2023. Loki Season 2 won the hearts of audiences with the character arc of the titular character and its ending. Along with Tom Hiddleston, the show which is helmed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, features a stellar star cast including Sophia Di Martino, Eugene Cordero, Wunmi Mosaku, and many others in pivotal roles.

Aarya Season 3

Sushmita Sen made a stunning comeback to the OTT screens by reprising the titular role in the third season of her famous show, Aarya. The third season of the show, which received great reviews from the viewers, depicts the events in the life of Aarya, who is on a mission to establish her dominance over the drug trade. Along with the prominent faces from the first two seasons who reprised their respective roles, Ira Arun, Indraneil Sengupta, and many other new faces joined the star cast.

The School Of Lies

This mystery thriller series, which was released on Disney+ Hotstar in June 2023, revolves around the mysterious missing case of a 12-year-old student named Shakti Salgaonkar. Nimrit Kaur, Aamir Bashir, Vir Pachisia, Shakti Anand, Sonali Kulkarni, and others played the pivotal roles in the show, which is helmed by Avinash Arun and Ishani Banerjee.

Koffee With Karan Season 8

Well, an obvious entry into this list is the eighth season of the ‘guilty pleasure’ show, Koffee With Karan. Unlike the previous season which received quite a lot of flak from netizens for host Karan Johar’s evident extra love for Alia Bhatt, and cheezy interactions, redeemed itself with this season, quite a bit. Koffee With Karan 8 brought back some much-loved stars after a long gap, and earned the love from viewers across the globe.

The show which is created by Neamoth Ullah Masum and Syed Ahmed Shawki, revolves around a freezer van driver named Dayaa, who finds a dead body inside his van. Babloo Prithveeraj, Eesha Reeba, Remya Nambeesan, and others played supporting roles in the series.

The Night Manager

This thriller show, which is headlined by Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sobhita Dhulipala, had an unconventional release on Disney+ Hotstar in 2023. Both the two seasons of the show, which had just four and three episodes, respectively, hit the screens in a gap of four months. The Night Manager, which is based on the British Television series of the same name, earned relatively positive reviews from the viewers.

This Tamil web series, which marked the OTT series debut of popular filmmaker Arunraja Kamaraj, revolves around the life of Prabhakaran (Jai), who is struggling to escape the restrictions society has put on him, owing to his background. Along with Jai, the acclaimed show features a stellar star cast including Tanya Hope, Mahendran, Sriman, Harishankar Narayanan, Ilavarasu, Suresh Chakravarthy, and others in key roles.

Kerala Crime Files

This Ahammed Khabeer directorial, which is touted to be the first-ever official web series in Malayalam, earned positive reviews with its making and performances. Aju Varghese, Lal, Navas Vallikunnu, Zhinz Shan, Sreejith Mahadevan, Ashwathy Manohar, Devaki Rajendran, and others played the pivotal roles in Kerala Crime Files, which revolves around the journey of a six-member police team to solve the murder case of a sex worker.

Masterpeace

Nithya Menen and Sharaf U Dheen played the lead roles in this family dramedy, which revolves around the marital issues of a young couple named Riya and Binoy. Masterpeace, which is helmed by Praveen S, features Ashokan, Renji Panicker, Shanthi Krishna, Parvathi T, Divya Pillai, and others in the supporting roles. The show premiered on Disney+ Hotstar in October 2023.
