Parminder Nagra, whom we’ve seen in hit movies and series like Bend it Like Beckham and ER, is all set to enter the world of crime with the upcoming crime-drama series titled, DI Ray.

Commissioned by ITV, DI Ray is about Rachita Ray, a police officer (played by Nagra) who takes on a murder case that gets her to question her own identity. It puts her at a crossroads, wondering if she resonates more with being British or her origin as a South Asian. Taking place in the gloomy underworld of Birmingham, the series brings out hard-hitting questions related to feeling like an outsider, although being a Brit. Nevertheless, being someone who never backs out from a challenge, she goes forward to investigate the crime. It takes her to several avenues, which involves organised crime, but mainly makes her question herself about her ethnicity.
