“Being a Thala fan is not easy,” read a meme from a X, formerly Twitter, user as the person tweeted about all the updates from the Tamil film industry scheduled on Pongal day, except for Ajith Kumar’s much-anticipated VidaaMuyarchi.
For Ajith fans, it’s a familiar story – considering that they had previously waited for months together before getting an update about Ajith’s previous releases – Valimai and Thunivu, so much that they even hounded former English and Chennai Super Kings cricketer Moeen Ali for the updates during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
The festive day of Pongal is often special for Tamil movie fans with makers of several upcoming big films announcing updates. This year, the teams of Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan as well as Thalapathy Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time pleased their fans by releasing new posters of the much-anticipated movies, which are already being celebrated by the fans. Suriya fans too are expected to be treated with an update on the actor’s Kanguva by the end of the day.
Ajith fans, however, were left wondering if they would get any update from their superstar’s latest film VidaaMuyarchi, which is helmed by Magizh Thirumeni and has actors such as Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja and Arjun Das rumoured to be part of the cast of the film that has Anirudh Ravichander as its composer.

While Thala fans have now become used to the delay in updates for Ajith-starrers, they still made the superstar trend on social media, with their hopeful tweets. Many speculated with the rumour of #AK63 pooja on the cards for Pongal, an update on VidaaMuyarchi was definitely possible for Pongal. Some even tweeted that the makers would be releasing a first look poster of the film at 4pm, followed by pooja stills at 5pm, an update of VidaaMuyarchi trailer at 6pm and unveiling of #AK63 title at 7pm. Along with this, they also speculated a new movie announcement to end the day.

However, the less optimistic fans settled for sharing previous posts of the actor’s movies – including how his movies have had the biggest first-day, first-show pull in the State. Fans also celebrated 23 years of Dheena, which was on released January 14, 2001. The movie was also responsible for Ajith’s nickname Thala.
Meanwhile, Ajith’s manager Suresh Chandra getting his X handle verified has also fueled rumours that the makers are planning to reveal something big on social media concerning Ajith’s upcoming projects. While we wait for that, here are the two latest updates from Vettaiyan and The Greatest of All Time.
The latest Vettaiyan poster shows Rajinikanth in a styli sh avatar flaunting his wayfarer sunglasses, while brandishing a gun. The movie, which is helmed by TJ Gnanavel, will not be the superstar’s first release in 2024 as that will be Aishwarya Rajnikanth’s Lal Salaam, which will have him in a special appearance.
The makers of Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time, meanwhile, released a poster of the GOAT Squad – unveiling the supporting cast of the Venkat Prabhu directorial. Prabhu Deva, Ajmal Ameer and Prashanth also feature in the film, which has Jayaram, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Sneha and Laila too as part of the cast.
