Karthik Subbaraj's latest outing Jigarthanda Double X, which dropped in theatres worldwide yesterday, has been receiving rave reviews from the audience. The film stars SJ Suryah and Raghava Lawrence in the lead. And just like its predecessor, the spiritual successor, too, revolves around a filmmaker and a gangster-turned-actor. Sparks renewed interest in Jigarthanda
The release of Jigarthanda Double X has renewed the interest in Jigarthanda (2014), which starred Bobby Simha and Siddharth in the lead. The character of gangster-turned-actor Assault Sethu was a milestone in Bobby Simha's career and it fetched him the National Award for the Best Supporting Actor. Vivek Harshan won the award for Best Editing. Siddharth played the filmmaker who is out to make a movie on a gangster.

Raghava Lawrence, who is playing one of the leads in Jigarthanda Double X, revealed that he was supposed to play the character of Assault Sethu, but couldn't take it up for various reasons.
Jigarthanda is now streaming on Simply South
The film, which was a benchmark in Karthik Subbaraj's career, is currently streaming on Simply South. The portal shared on its social media handle, "Karthik Subbaraj's finest film ever. The greatest Musical Gangster drama in South Indian cinema, #Jigarthanda, now streaming on Simply South. Streaming worldwide, excluding India (sic)."
Jigarthanda Double X emerges as the winner among Diwali race
The plot of the film is set in 1975. Raghava Lawrence, a gangster, is set to be cast as the first dark-complexioned hero in Tamil cinema. Ray Dasan (SJ Suryah) is all set to cast him in a film titled Pandyaa. Meanwhile, a number of gangsters are planning to take down Raghava Lawrence and the film.
With the good word of mouth about the film, theatres are planning to allocate more screens for the film. Jigarthanda Double X is bankrolled by Stone Bench Films, Five Star Creations and Invenio Origin.
