Maharaja is Vijay Sethupathi's 50th film and features an ensemble cast including Anurag Kashyap and Mamta Mohandas
Director Nithilan Saminathan, who is waiting for his second directorial Maharaja to hit big screens, made a smashing debut with Kurangu Bommai in 2017. The critically acclaimed film is a crime thriller which earned a positive reception upon its release.
Now with Maharaja's release round the corner, it is the best time to revisit Nithilan's Kurangu Bommai. The film is available for streaming on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium.
Director Nithilan, who made his debut in 2017, with Kurangu Bommai, is ready for the release of his second film Maharaja. Starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role, the film is set to release in theatres on June 14.

Ahead of its release, watch the filmmaker’s debut film Kurangu Bommai, which is streaming on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium. The crime thriller stars Vidaarth, Bharathiraja, Elango Kumaravel and others. Kurangu Bommai explores the themes of familial affections, betrayal, greed, and revenge. It revolves around a man who is tasked to deliver an idol worth crores to an agent in Chennai. However, after he goes missing, his son takes in-charge of finding what happened to him.
Kurangu Bommai earned positive critical appreciation upon its release and was later remade in Kannada as Ombattane Dikku.
Maharaja is headlined by Vijay Sethupathi and marks his 50thfilm as a lead actor. He plays the role of a hairdresser in the film, who is in search of Lakshmi, whose identity the audience is kept unaware of. Besides him, the film also stars filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Natty (Natraj), Bharathiraja, Abhirami, Singampuli, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Vinoth Sagar, Boys Manikandan, Kalki, Sachana Namidass, and others.

The film is backed by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy, with the technical crew consisting of Dinesh Purushothaman cranking the camera and music composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath. Philomin Raj has edited the film. Maharaja’s post-theatrical rights have been bagged by Netflix. It will release in theatres on July 14.
