Beast: Vijay’s movie sets new non-Rajini record in the US, witnesses second highest premiere numbers

Vijay’s Beast finally hit theatres today after being one of the most-anticipated South Indian movies of the year. While the movie was expected to set box office records in Tamil Nadu, it has also taken the US box office by storm.

The action comedy thriller had the second all-time highest grossing premiere in the USA for a South Indian movie. Beast also beat the record for a non-Rajini movie. Rajinikanth’s stardom is unmatched in the United States, and the proof is in the box office records held by his movies like 2.0, Kabali and Petta.

Beast has reportedly collected an impressive $620,000 (Rs. 4.7 crore) in the US on its first day. Ahimsa Entertainments, who are the movie’s US distributors, took to social media to share the news with the fans.

The first shows of Beast began as early as 4:00 am in states such as Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Beast has received mixed reviews from the critics, who are not impressed with the movie’s writing.

“Nelson, who made heads turn with the right mix of humour, suspense and action in Kolamavu Kokila and Doctor, couldn't repeat the magic he came up with in those two films. Beast has enough elements required to impress fans of Vijay, but the movie falls short of expectations.'' read the movie’s review on OTTplay.

Written and directed by Nelson, Beast also features Pooja Hegde, Selvaraghavan, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, and Lilliput Faruqui among others. With music by Anirudh Ravichander, the movie has Vijay play a spy trapped Inside a mall, that has been hijacked by terrorists.

The movie, which is expected to do well in the box office, is available in theatres around the world.
