A still from Beast
Even as the debates continue on social media with regard to the figures Beast earned on day one in Tamil Nadu, we have learnt that it has grossed around 9 crores totally from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The distributor share from the Telugu states is around 5 crores. Beast is the second biggest opener for Vijay in the two states, only next to Master.
The actor's films have been regularly dubbed into Telugu over the years, and it seems like he has gradually developed a set of audience for himself in recent times.
Master, which was screened in Telugu states with 50 percent occupancy amid a Tollywood movie like Krack running successfully in theatres, became his biggest opening. But Beast which released with 100 percent occupancy couldn't surpass the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial. Movie lovers opine that many Tollywood audiences have been more eagerly waiting for KGF 2.
Moreover, Master had the presence of Vijay Sethupathi, too, which made the movie more or like a multi-starrer. Master was the first Indian film which entered into the prestigious 100 crore club in the pandemic era. The movie is still considered as the project which revived theatres in many territories of south India.
The mixed reviews Beast received is likely to affect its box office prospects in Telugu states, and the unanimous positive reviews for Yash-starrer KGF 2 will make things difficult for the Vijay-starrer. When a few other Tamil stars who had good following in Telugu failed to capitalize on it in recent times, Vijay has been upping his market in Tollywood slowly and steadily.
Fans of Vijay hope that Thalapathy 66 directed by Tollywood filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally will boost his market in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana though it is essentially a Tamil project.
