Srijit’s Dawshom Awbotaar has a stellar star cast. With Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jisshu U Sengupta, Anirban Bhattacharya, and Jaya Ahsan in the lead, the film is billed as a prequel of Baishe Srabon and Vinci Da. Here we give you a lowdown of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the mega film. This article is written based on the available information in the public domain. It is not a prediction and has no spoiler.
Strengths: Srijit Mukherji is back to basic – thriller – his strongest forte. No one can question the director’s ability to hold the audience in a thriller, send chills through their spines, and play with red herrings like Sachin Tendulkar does with a full-toss ball. That’s not all, Dawshom has one of the most high-value star casts. The first look of the film is out and like many of his other successful films with Jisshu U Sengupta, Srijit has hinted a surprise undertone for his character. Besides, Baishe Srabon’s Probir Roy Chowdhury (Prosenjit) is back with his swag. Then there are Anirban Bhattacharya and Jaya Ahsan who never disappoint in Srijit’s collaboration with them. Finally, it has one of the best promotions and marketing behind them in the city. It is an in-house team and they will leave no stone unturned to reach out to as many viewers as possible. Besides, the film will also have an advantage in terms of distribution.

Weaknesses: Dawshom Awbotaar started late – after Srijit had completed his web series Durgo Rawhoshyo. When the other films are all set with their teasers, trailers, songs, looks, and promotion plans, Dawshom Awbotaar has just released its poster. We admit that says nothing about the film and it can still be as engaging as expected from a thriller by Srijit.
Opportunities: This film has superhit recall values. Baishe Srabon and Vinci Da are successful films and there is a general curiosity over the characters like Probir Roy Chowdhury and Bijoy Poddar (Anirban Bhattacharya’s character from Vinci Da). Second, the cop-universe genre is in vogue, globally. If made well, it has a high chance of being lapped up by the audience and Srijit will re-establish himself as a master of Bengali thrillers.
Threats: Dawshom Awbotaar is one of the most anticipated films during Puja. Hence, the film will be under scrutiny. Srijit has a strong fanbase on social media. At the same time, the number of netizens trolling him is also quite high, unfortunately. One falter in the film and an army of trolls will be at work. Does social media affect the film business? We don’t have a clear answer to that. We will keep our fingers crossed and hope it exceeds expectations.
