Barry Keoghan made his way to The Batman for a blink and miss cameo as Joker and has been making fans crave for more ever since.
While The Batman Part I featuring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne aka Vengeance, opened doors for numerous characters and subplots to flourish in The Batman Epic Crime Saga, it also left the future of some key figures hanging—likely to be addressed in The Batman Part II. One such pivotal character is the Joker, who, as revealed in the film's climax, resides in Arkham Asylum alongside The Riddler while the events of The Penguin series unfold. Speculation about what lies ahead for the Saltburn star in the DCU has been rife, but nothing has been confirmed. James Gunn even dismissed rumors of a standalone show for the character. Now, Barry Keoghan has chosen to break his silence.
Barry Keoghan was introduced as Joker in The Batman Part I during the finale, when Bruce Wayne visits Arkham Asylum. Initially billed as the "Unnamed Arkham Inmate," he was later confirmed to be the Joker. Recently, rumors suggested that, following The Penguin Joker would receive his own standalone series. However, James Gunn quickly shut down these claims. Despite this, Keoghan’s future as the Clown Prince of Crime in The Batman Epic Crime Saga has remained unclear. The actor has now commented on the matter, though his response was vague.
According to ComicBook when asked about the Joker and his future in The Batman Epic Crime Saga, Barry Keoghan said: "Again, you know, it's iconic, and to the people performing it, you know, it's just iconic performances, and it's a big one. But I’m going to say that, you know, if the opportunity came about, yes, I'd love to explore and, given that opportunity, really dive into it. But I've not been contacted, and I've not heard anything, so I can't, yeah."

James Gunn is highly active on Threads, often posting updates and addressing rumors about upcoming DCU projects. Most recently, when asked whether a Joker series starring Barry Keoghan was in the works, Gunn swiftly dismissed the claims.
"A Joker series is not being discussed nor has even come up at this time," Gunn wrote on Threads.
Rumors had suggested that the Joker series would serve as a bridge between The Batman Part II and The Batman Part III much like The Penguin bridged the gap between the first two films. There had been no information about the show's production status, but Gunn has now decisively debunked the speculation, adding:
"Turn on Threads, and everyone is asking me about this. No, there is absolutely no truth to this."
Meanwhile, Matt Reeves recently discussed Barry Keoghan’s future as the Joker in the DCU during an interview with Variety. After being credited as "Unseen Arkham Inmate" in The Batman Reeves confirmed that Keoghan indeed plays the Joker. Reeves clarified, “It’s not an Easter egg scene. It’s not one of those end credits Marvel or DC scenes where it’s going, like, ‘Hey, here’s the next movie!’ In fact, I have no idea when or if we would return to that character in the movies.”
The Batman streams in India on JioCinema. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more updates on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
