This week, the OTT world in south is looking forward to the release of movies belonging to diverse genres from children’s fantasy to political thriller. Mohanlal heads the list with his Barroz, while Vijay Sethupathi's Viduthalai Part 2 is a strong contender from the Tamil Cinema. Mohanlal’s directorial debut Barroz was in the news for a long time before it finally hit the theatres in 3D as a Christmas release. However, the children’s fantasy film failed to generate much buzz post its release and had to bow out from theatres. Now, the Malayalam film is set for its digital debut on Disney+ Hotstar and it remains to be seen if Mohanlal's labour of love will win appreciation from the OTT viewers.

Viduthalai Part 2

For the second part of his Viduthalai duology, Vetrimaaran joined hands with Vijay Sethupathi to narrate the tale of Perumal Vaathiyaar and what led him down the path of a revolutionary. Soori plays the rookie cop, constable Kumaresan, in this film which also features Manju Warrier in a key role. The political film was noted for the powerful performances of its cast, especially leading man Vijay Sethupathi.
The Smile Man

Language - Tamil
Sarath Kumar dons the police uniform in this crime thriller that chases a serial killer. But the heroic cop is also battling Alzheimer's disease and needs to get to the bottom of the case before his memory fails him completely. Helmed by Syam-Praveen, the film garnered mixed reviews when it was released in theatres in December 2024. If you are a fan of Tamil crime thrillers, watch out for The Smile Man on Aha and OTTplay Premium.
Wife Off

Another thriller on the list is Wife Off from the Telugu industry and we have a woman in charge of the proceedings. Divya Shree stars in the lead role and her bold portrayal is something you should watch out for in Wife Off. Rag Mayur stars in the lead role in Sivarapalli, an Amazon Prime Video series. Said to be the Telugu remake of TVF's popular Panchayat, the series follows Shyam's journey as the educated youth gets posted at Sivarapalli. His interactions with the quirky villagers and skirmishes with the Panchayat secretary would be the highlight of the series. Watch out for this slice-of-life drama on Prime Video.

Set in 1948, this Telugu historical drama portrays the struggles of people in Hyderabad as they seek to reclaim their identity. Directed by Yata Satyanarayana, the film features Anasuya Bharadwaj, Indraja, Bobby Simha, Tej Sapru, and Makarand Deshpande, among others, in key roles.
