Barroz Trailer OUT: Mohanlal looks promising as Guardian of Treasure in his directorial debut

The long-awaited Barroz trailer featuring Mohanlal finally was released by the makers today, November 19.

Barroz is the long-delayed directorial debut of Mohanlal. The film is gearing up to hit the big screens in December 2024. Touted to be a period fantasy children’s film, Barroz has been under production since 2021. After multiple delays, the makers dropped the Barroz trailer on theatres, along with the Suriya starrer, Kanguva. Now, the trailer has been released officially online today, November 19.

Barroz Trailer Is Out

The 2-minute and 3-second trailer of Barroz introduces Mohanlal as the Guardian of Treasure. He is seen playing the titular character. The superstar flaunts his action skills as he rescues and saves the treasures from the enemy. From the trailer, it seems that the movie will also explore some fascinating hidden truths. The story focuses on Barroz's journey as the guardian ghost of a castle. Legend has it that the castle carries many fascinating stories and hides a treasure that only a special girl can uncover. It is revealed that the girl can see the ghost and talk to him.

Directed by Mohanlal, Barroz will hit cinemas on December 25, 2024. When the trailer was released in theaters, netizens showered it with praise. One X user wrote, "#Barroz looks like a Disney Adventure film, something very unique and original at the same time."

Santosh Sivan talks about Barroz

Earlier, the cinematographer Santosh Sivan called Barroz a very tricky film. He said, "It’s not a ‘mass’ movie. There are a lot of African and Spanish actors and a few Malayalam actors. We never know how it would turn out for our audience, given that they will have to read subtitles for the foreigners’ portions. That said, the storytelling relies on brilliant visuals; it has got a lot of fantasy elements that will surely appeal to children.”

Santosh Sivan on Mohanlal as director

When asked about Mohanlal’s ‘role’ as a filmmaker on the project, Sivan shared that he feels that the movie has come out well. When he asked Mohanlal why he chose to direct this film, the actor said that if he did not direct this, no one ever would.

"That is true. He’s an interesting director, and unlike other filmmakers, he doesn’t give you references of shots from other films. Whatever he does, he does it from his heart. Whether it’s right or wrong, he isn’t bothered," Sivan added.

Santosh also called Mohanlal a spontaneous director and praised his honesty in the craft.

Meanwhile, Barroz is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas, while cinematography is done by Santosh Sivan. The film's music is composed by Lydian Nadaswaram.
