Mohanlal’s directorial debut Barroz: The Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure earlier had prodigy Lydian Nadhaswaram as its music director
The team of Mohanlal’s directorial debut, Barroz: The Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure, has added another renowned artiste to its crew. While the team had initially announced that 17-year-old prodigy Lydian Nadhaswaram would be marking his debut as music director through the 3D children’s fantasy film, Mohanlal took to this social networking page on Thursday to share that South African composer Mark Kilian has also joined the team.
He shared a photo of him and the film’s creative and chief associate director TK Rajeev Kumar with Mark, who had previously worked in Hollywood movies such as Pitch Perfect and Deep Blue Sea 3. “Team Barroz welcomes music genius Mark Kilian onboard,” Mohanlal had captioned the photo.
The movie, which was first announced in 2018 had undergone several changes before it finally went on floors in 2021. My Dear Kuttichathan filmmaker Jijo Punnoose was initially attached as the creative director and had written in his blog last year that he had re-written the script 22 times to suit the sensibilities of Barroz producer and Mohanlal. Jijo’s draft had a teenage girl as the prominent character and not Mohanlal’s Barroz.
However, post the pandemic, there were discussions by the producer to even shelve the movie, before Mohanlal stepped in to revive it. By this time, the foreign artistes, such as Paz Vega, Shayla McCaffrey and Rafael Amargo who had signed to play pivotal roles in the movie, had dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
“Mohanlal then took the initiative along with Rajeev Kumar” to rewrite the script “for viable completion of the film in and around Kochi itself,” Jijo wrote. Earlier, the team had planned to shoot in locations in Goa and Portugal.
Currently, the team has completed the shoot of the movie, which also features a song that was shot in Thailand. The team is currently busy with its dubbing.
