Barrack Obama's 2024 list of top films has a surprising inclusion

Former US President Barrack Obama has quite an interesting taste in movies, if one were to examine his annual movie recommendation lists. Obama shared his list of movie recommendations for 2024 and the very first entry, which may or may not be in any particular order, is of interest to Indian audiences. Obama’s list begins with Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light, which won the Grand Prix award at the Cannes International Film Festival.

In the last couple of years, Obama's favourite movies have included the likes of The Fabelmans, The Woman King, Aftersun, Descendant, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Top Gun: Maverick, Leave the World Behind, Anatomy of a Fall, Oppenheimer, The Holdovers, Rustin, and many more.

All about All We Imagine as Light

Kapadia became the first Indian filmmaker in 30 years to feature in the Cannes' main competition section; the last being Shaji N Karun’ Swaham. All We Imagine As Light, which stars Kani Kusruti, Chhaya Kadam and Divya Prabha in main roles, has also been nominated for two Golden Globes and the Critics' Choice Awards 2025.

Kapadia has a nomination for Director of a Motion Picture, while the film is on the shortlist for Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globes.

The film is yet to be available on OTT platforms, but has had a small-scale theatrical outing.
