The new trailer for Greta Gerwig's directorial gives a more colourful glimpse into the world of Barbie.
Warner Bros. has just released a brand-new official trailer for Barbie. The plot details of Greta Gerwig's summer tentpole, in which Barbie and Ken finally make their entrance into the real world, have been kept under wraps until now.
After getting bored with their everyday lives in Barbieland, Margot Robbie's Barbie and Ryan Gosling's Ken decide to travel the world. Unlike their pink-coded, plastic bubble, the real world is a scary and exciting place for them to explore in the new film. Barbie and Ken end up in some LAPD mugshots after they are arrested for punching a man who slapped their butts on Venice Beach. In the meantime, the news that a living Barbie has been spotted in Los Angeles has caused widespread panic in their world.
While Gerwig and the rest of the Barbie cast worked hard to keep the film's narrative under wraps, fans started to figure it out after photographs and videos from the set went viral last year. Robbie had told Jimmy Fallon last year that they were mortified when the set images went viral online. Even if it seems like they are all having a great time, the truth is that they are all dying inside. She thought that this was the most humiliating moment of her life.
The actor was aware that they would be filming in Los Angeles' natural settings. Once they started working on the outside, she knew they would be papped. They stick out a little bit in those outfits, and there's probably going to be a little gathering of people who pay attention. So Robbie knew there was going to be some attention, and she figured some images would make it out, but not to this extent.
Alongside Robbie and Gosling, Barbie features a star-studded cast, including Will Ferrell, Connor Swindells, Nicola Coughlan, Emerald Fennell, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Ritu Arya, Jamie Demetriou, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Simu Liu, Scott Evans, and Ncuti Gatwa.
Gerwig directed Barbie alongside her husband, Noah Baumbach, and also wrote the script. In collaboration with Mattel Films and Heyday Films, Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment produced the movie. LuckyChap's Josey McNamara and Mattel's Ynon Kreiz are the show's executive producers.
