Margot Robbie-starrer Barbie shows growth, earns Rs 11.58 crore in India.
Barbie, the fantasy comedy-drama film based on the popular doll franchise, has shown a decent growth on its second day at the Indian box office. The film, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead roles, has collected Rs 6.58 crore on Saturday, taking its two-day total to Rs 11.58 crore.
The film, directed by Greta Gerwig, opened to Rs 5 crore on Friday, facing a tough competition from Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, which made Rs 14.50 crore on its first day. However, Barbie managed to attract more audience on Saturday, registering a growth of 31.60 per cent.
Barbie tells the story of a doll who is expelled from Barbieland for not being perfect enough and lands in the real world, where she meets Ken (Ryan Gosling), a journalist who helps her discover her true self. The film also features Helen Mirren as the narrator and voice of Barbie's conscience.
The film has received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, who have praised its humour, message and performances. The film has also performed well at the international box office, earning $70.5 million on its opening day and $43 million on Friday.
Barbie is expected to witness further growth on Sunday, as it is a holiday and the word-of-mouth is favourable. The film will also benefit from the lack of any major Bollywood release this week. However, it will have to sustain its momentum in the coming days to recover its high production cost and compete with Oppenheimer, which is dominating the box office.
