The much-awaited live-action film Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, hit the theatres on July 21, 2023, and received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film, directed by Greta Gerwig, is a smart satire on the iconic doll brand and its impact on society and culture. However, despite the positive buzz and the star power, Barbie could not match up to the box office performance of Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, which also released on the same day.

According to Sacnilk.com, Barbie collected Rs 5 crore nett in India on its opening day, while Oppenheimer raked in Rs 13.50 crore nett. The film also faced competition from Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1, which was still running in theatres.

Barbie features Robbie as Barbie and Gosling as Ken, who are expelled from Barbieland for not being perfect enough. They embark on a journey of self-discovery in the real world, where they encounter various challenges and adventures. The film also stars Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Alexandra Shipp, Dua Lipa, Scott Evans and Will Ferrell.

Oppenheimer is a historical thriller based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb. The film stars Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, along with Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, John David Washington, Tom Hardy and Kenneth Branagh.

Both films have received critical acclaim for their direction, screenplay, acting and cinematography. However, it seems that Oppenheimer has an edge over Barbie in terms of audience appeal and word-of-mouth.
