Even Twitter CEO, Elon Musk, criticized Greta Gerwig's Barbie film, saying you'll pass out from drinking if you take a shot every time Barbie says 'patriarchy'.
Actress Lisa Ray slams Barbie.
Ever since Barbie: The Movie was released theatrically on July 21, 2023, it has faced heavy criticism from all sections of society. From promoting sexual connotations to making use of inappropriate language, celebrities across the world have heavily criticized this fantasy movie.
The list of celebrities includes those hailing from India. Just a day after the theatrical release of the movie, popular television actress Juhi Parmar penned a long note criticizing the makers of the movie for promoting inappropriate language and sexual connotation. To add fuel to the claims, actors Neha Dhupia and Jay Bhanushali also lashed out at the theatrical project.
The latest celebrity who has made it to the list is Lisa Ray. In a tweet today, the Veerappan (2016) actress expressed her concerns about Barbie and questioned the millennials for celebrating such an oppressive film.
“Genuine question to the Woke millennials and Gen Zers: how are you not only not up in arms over the Barbie movie - which is really a huge marketing push for an agent of female oppression cloaked as a movie - but many of you are also participating in Barbiecore and posting cute photos in hot pink? How?! I see young influencers who raise the alarm against social inequalities and sexism and yet are fervently celebrating a movie that not matter how subversive, brings unwelcome Barbie standards and it’s legacy to the next generation of girls,” wrote Lisa in a tweet.
Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig's film 'Barbie' remains steady at the box office in India. The film is now nearing the Rs 30 crore-mark.
