The comedy entertainer was scheduled to release in theatres on November 26
Director Sanoop Thykoodam’s Sumesh & Ramesh, which has Balu Varghese and Sreenath Bhasi in the lead, has delayed its release. The movie, which was supposed to release in theatres on November 26, has now been postponed to a later date.
The makers announced the change in release date, citing the unavailability of screens in Kerala to showcase the film as the reason. Currently, majority of the Malayalam films that have released after theatres reopened last month have got a decent response.
Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup, Basil Joseph’s Jan-E-Man, Asif Ali’s Ellam Sheriyaakum and Indrajith Sukumaran’s Aaha that had released in the past two weeks have got positive responses all over. Suresh Gopi’s Kaaval, which opened in theatres today, also got a substantial number of screens. Considering Mohanlal’s Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham is set to hit a record number of theatres next week, it’s probably a smart move by the makers of Sumesh & Ramesh to delay the movie till they get a minimum number of theatres to screen the movie.
The film, which also has Praveena and Salim Kumar, revolves around sibling rivalry between the two happy-go-lucky brothers, who bury the hatchet and come together when their family face a struggle. Sanoop had earlier scripted Omar Lulu’s Chunkzz, which also had Balu Varghese in the lead role.
The shoot of Sumesh & Ramesh had concluded in 2019 and the team had initially planned a release date in early 2020. This was delayed due to the pandemic and they were looking to release the movie after theatres in Kerala reopened in February this year. The second lockdown and now the unavailability of theatres have once again led to them further pushing the release date.
