The writer also revealed that the upcoming sequel would be set almost a decade after the events of the first film.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan left an indelible mark on viewers with its moving story, and featured some incredible performances by its lead cast. Fans were left exalted to know that a sequel to the stirring film is in the works, when Salman Khan announced the same last year at an RRR event. Bajranji Bhaijaan turns 7 years old today, and Vijayendra Prasad shared how his son, SS Rajamouli, was moved to tears on hearing the film’s story.
In conversation with Pinkvilla, Prasad spoke of how he had narrated the film’s story to SS Rajamouli before committing the story to Khan. When Rajamouli heard the story, he had gotten emotional and tears had started to stream down his face. Although Prasad had asked if he should keep aside the story for Rajamouli, the latter had said no and asked that it be given away.
After the film’s release, Rajamouli had approached his father and told him that he had asked the question at the ‘wrong’ time. Rajamouli had been filming the climax scene of Baahubali at the time, and was in a ‘jittery’ situation, which was why he’d said no to his father’s offer. Rajamouli had added that if he’d been asked ten days before or later, he would probably have agreed to directing the film.
Prasad also opened up about how he had gotten the idea for the film after watching the Chiranjeevi starrer Telugu film Pasivadi Pranam. Earlier, the film’s story was envisioned in a way that involved the hero going to Pakistan and ‘bashing them’. But Prasad had wanted to do something more. “The intention was to make a film that doesn't increase the animosity between the two countries but decreases it", he said.
On choosing Khan for the lead role in the film, Prasad revealed that the actor had come on board the film as soon as he heard its story. Harshaali Malhotra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Kareena Kapoor Khan also star in the film.
