Bahaddur, which came out 10 years ago, was Dhruva’s second film and his second with Radhika
Kannada actor Dhruva Sarja has had the slowest career progression as far as film releases go. 12 years in the industry, and Dhruva has only 4 films to his credit. Bahaddur, his sophomore film and second outing with Radhika Pandit, which came out way back in 2014 is coming back to theatres. The Chetan Kumar directorial is getting re-released across Karnataka on June 21.
Bahaddur had Dhruva as Ashok, the scion of a royal family, who falls head-over-heels in love with Anjali (Radhika). But despite his best efforts to woo her, she remains indifferent to his advances, as she’s promised her father that she will marry the boy he chooses for her. How he eventually manages to win her hand forms the crux of the narrative.
The film’s ensemble cast includes Sundar C, P Ravi Shankar, Srinivasa Murthy, Achyuth Kumar, Sangeetha, Jai Jagdish, Sudha Rani, Gururaj Hoskote, Avinash, Padmaja Rao, Dattanna, among many others, with the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar serving as narrator. Available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar, Bahaddur’s soundtrack by V Harikrishna was quite the hit back in the day. Shot across locations in Mysuru, Hubballi, Bengaluru and Mandya, Bahaddur was a commercial success when it released.
Considering that there aren’t any major Kannada releases that have been announced for June 21, Bahaddur will join Chilli Chicken as the offerings at the box office next week. Meanwhile, since Bahaddur, Dhruva has had only two other releases, Bharjari (2017) and Pogaru (2019), with his 5th film Martin massively delayed . His 6th, KD – The Devil is nearing completion and will be in theatres this December. Martin will be a Dasara 2024 releases, two years after it was first announced to be in theatres for the festival.
