Sriimurali in and as Bagheera

Bagheera, Kannada cinema’s own superhero, is now on Netflix. The Sriimurali-led film, which was released in theatres for Deepavali, had a decent opening but did not sustain, despite above-average reviews. The film became available on Netflix on November 21, and reviews have begun pouring in from audiences across languages, pointing out the pros and cons of the Dr Suri directorial.

Bagheera on OTT: Here's what audiences think of the Sriimurali-led film

A technical glitch that had the Tamil version of the film play when a user chooses Telugu audio was the talking point about Bagheera early on Thursday morning, but as the day progressed, more and more ‘reviews’ popped up. What’s interesting is that even when audiences were not entirely in love with the film, it’s been unanimously called a one-time watch.

Leading man Sriimurali’’s performance and fantastic physique were noted as major high points, which, however, were in a film with a weak and routine story and screenplay – that was the most commonly seen comment about Bagheera. Interestingly, audiences seemed to be divided about their opinion on Ajaneesh Loknath’s score for the film. While some felt that the background score, especially the Satyameva Jayate bit that later becomes the trigger for the birth of a vigilante, was fantastic, a few felt that the songs were adequate while the BGM wasn’t.

Bagheera, produced by Hombale Films, is based on a basic plot line by Prashanth Neel that was developed into the film that’s now streaming by Dr Suri. The film was in the making for a while, as Sriimurali injured himself a couple of times during fight sequences, including an ACL tear that kept him out of action for several months.

Rukmini Vasanth, Prakash Raj, Garuda Ram, Achyuth Kumar, Rangayana Raghu, Prakash Thuminad, Sudha Rani, Avinash, Sharath Lohithashwa, Pramod Shetty are among the film’s supporting cast.
