The actor will be seen as Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay in Arun Roy’s period drama.
After playing Nagendranath Sarbadhikari – the father of Indian football – in Dhrubo Banerjee’s Golondaaj, Dev will be seen in yet another period piece that shows colonial India. OTTplay has earlier reported that the actor will play the character of Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay, aka Bagha Jatin – the brave freedom fighter who killed a tiger without any arms. On Independence Day, Dev took to his social media handle to reveal the poster and his first look as the Bagha Jatin. The actor, who is also the producer of Arun Roy’s period drama, has mentioned that the film is also an effort to commemorate the 75 years of India’s independence.
He wrote, “On the auspicious day of celebrating 75 years of Independence, Our humble tribute to the legendary freedom fighter ‘Baghajatin’. Presenting the official poster of #Baghajatin. Stay tuned.”
In an interview with Anandabazar, Dev said that he is selecting characters that are challenging. “When we say that we will have to stand by Bengali films, we will also have to deliver films of a certain standard,” he said.

The director of the film, Arun Roy, is known to direct films based on historic relevance. Earlier, his Hiralal, 8/11 Binay Badal Dinesh, is based on important events. He confirmed that the legendary fight between Bagha Jatin and Tiger will be portrayed in the film. The film will use heavy VFX to recreate images. Eminent freedom fighters, like Aurobindo Ghosh, Rashbehari Basu, and Barin Ghosh – will be part of the film.
As per experts, Dev has an uncanny similarity with Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay. Hence, a major prosthetic makeover is less likely to take place. However, sources said that there can be a minor prosthetic detail added around the nasal area. The film may go on the floors in winter. Meanwhile, no official comments have so far been made by the actor’s or the director’s team.
