A Western with a twist The Power of the Dog took home the top two awards at the British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, winning best film and director for Jane Campion, while Dune took home the most.
After winning the top prize at the Directors Guild of America Awards in Beverly Hills the day before, New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion had a good weekend for her comeback feature film. The critically acclaimed film, set on a 1920s Montana ranch and based on the 1967 novel by Thomas Savage, marks Oscar-winner Campion's comeback to feature cinema since 2009's Bright Star.
Following a virtual event last year due to the COVID-19 outbreak, this year's celebration, dubbed the BAFTAs (British Academy of Film and Television Arts), returned as a regular, flashy red carpet event at London's Royal Albert Hall, hosted by Australian actor and comedian Rebel Wilson.
On the red carpet and on stage, there were references to the war in Ukraine, with some nominees donning ribbons and badges in the blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag or speaking about the crisis.

Will Smith, who was missing from the event, took home the prize for best actor for his role as the father of tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams in King Richard while Joanna Scanlan took home the award for best actress for her role as a widow in After Love, in which she finds her late husband's heartbreaking truth.
