Jonita Gandhi's returns to Kannada cinema with a moody number

Sree Ganesh Parashuram's Baang promises to be an exciting ride for more than one reason. For starters, the film comes across as a slick actioner that will hopefully trigger-start more such attempts in Kannada cinema. But beyond that, it includes a rather unconventional lead cast in the form of Shanvi Srivastava and Raghu Dixit, who will be seen as a warring duo in the film.

For both Shanvi and Raghu Dixit, Baang is assumedly an interesting switch from what they are traditionally known for - for the latter, of course, the film marks his acting debut but more important, Shanvi Srivastava gets to flirt with her "image" , so to speak, with this full-blown action role.

And in the same vein, Baang also strives to make the right kind of noise with its soundtrack. Ritvik Muralidhar is the film's composer and the team has already released two upbeat numbers (Dhaga Dhaga and Slow Motion, sung by ALL OK) and now making way for the third single from the album.

The latest track, titled Aata Senasaata, has shades of noir about it with the very popular Jonita Gandhi's seductive vocals elevating it further. Unlike the previous two songs, Aata Senasaata is brooding, leisurely paced and also very melodious. Almost like a James Bond theme song, if you will. The makers have also released a special animation video to go with the song and capture the mood of the song.

Baang, produced by Pooja Vasanth Kumar, is scheduled to release in theatres on August 18, along with Naveen Shankar and Archana Jois' Kshetrapathi.

In Pictures: Why Jonita Gandhi is an absolute rockstar

Aata Senasaata marks Jonita Gandhi's return to Kannada cinema after a long gap, with her most recent bona fide Kannada song coming way back in 2016. She has sung a few dubbed versions in the meantime but the latest single from Baang is what the audiences have been keenly looking forward to. Jonita is easily among the most popular singers in the business today with superhits like What Jhumka? (from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani), Jimikki Ponnu (Varisu), Arabic Kuthu (Beast) and many more to her name.
