Jagan Shakti will direct the upcoming Hindi adaptation of the 2020 Malayalam film.
The Hindi remake of Ayyappanum Koshiyum seems to have hit another snag in its production. Arjun Kapoor has reportedly exited the project, which also stars John Abraham in the lead. After Arjun’s exit, the makers are in talks with Abhishek Bachchan to replace the Ishaqzaade star.
According to a report in Pinkvilla, the makers had went into talks with Abhishek after Arjun stepped out of the film. The makers were reportedly ‘keen’ to get Abhishek on board, and their talks were currently in an ‘advanced’ stage. A source told the portal that after the makers had finalised everything and signing formalities had been fulfilled, a shoot schedule would be drawn up.
According to reports, Abhishek had earlier been on board for the upcoming film, but had backed out of the project back in August last year, being replaced by Arjun. Both the stars were expected to essay Prithviraj Sukumaran’s role from the original Malayalam movie. John will play Biju Menon’s role. If the news is confirmed, the upcoming film will mark John and Abhishek’s latest outing together, after 2008’s Dostana.
The upcoming Hindi film, whose production has reportedly been put on hold for now, will be helmed by Jagan Shakti, popular for helming Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal(2019). The original Ayyappanum Koshiyum was written and directed by Sachy. A Telugu remake of the film, called Bheemla Nayak featured Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati in lead roles, and was released this year. The Malayalam film can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video, while the Telugu film is available on Disney+Hotstar.
Meanwhile, Abhishek was last seen in Dasvi, alongside Nimrat Kaur and Yami Gautam, and is currently working on R Balki’s Ghoomer. John, who was last seen in Attack, has Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Pathaan as well as Tehran in his kitty.
