Tobey Maguire Joins Avengers: Secret Wars?

The whirlwind of excitement surrounding the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) over the past month has been nothing short of thrilling, and we hope it continues. Deadpool & Wolverine has become the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, Robert Downey Jr. has returned to the MCU, but this time as Doctor Doom, and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is now titled Avengers: Doomsday. Meanwhile, Blade starring Mahershala Ali is still very much on track. Amidst all this buzz is Avengers: Secret Wars which is slated for 2027 and is shaping up to be the biggest MCU movie since Avengers: Endgame. A new rumor suggests that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, along with four other iconic legacy actors, may appear in the film.

Avengers: Secret Wars Update

For those unfamiliar, Tobey Maguire starred in the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man movies released in the 2000s. Fans had long hoped for his return, and Marvel and Sony finally delivered in Spider-Man: No Way Home where Maguire reprised his role alongside Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. Since then, fans have been eager to see more of Maguire's Spider-Man. According to recent rumors, he might join Avengers: Secret Wars alongside Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow and other notable characters.

Given the scale and grandeur of Avengers: Secret Wars it’s expected to be a colossal film. There are likely to be many superheroes, both old and new, making an appearance, allowing even those who have exited the MCU to make a comeback. According to scooper My Time To Shine Hello, Marvel has reportedly secured five legacy actors to reprise their superhero roles.

The scoop reads, “Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man), Chris Evans (Captain America/Human Torch), Nicolas Cage (Ghost Rider), Wesley Snipes (Blade), and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) have all supposedly agreed to return to the MCU for Avengers: Secret Wars.” We’ve already heard theories that Deadpool & Wolverine will have their moment in the Avengers movies, along with The Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts. The film just keeps getting bigger and better.

However, it’s essential to take this news with a pinch of salt, as there’s still a three-year wait, and much can change in that time. Remember, we lost Kang last time? In the meantime, the Russo Brothers have been tapped to direct the two upcoming Avengers movies, which seems like one of Kevin Feige’s best decisions in a long time. Avengers: Doomsday is set for release on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
