James Cameron returns to direct the sequel to the hit 2009 film, which also stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña.
Almost a decade after viewers were treated to the jaw dropping world of Pandora, James Cameron is all set to continue the saga of Jake and Neytiri in Avatar: The Way of Water. The trailer of the sequel, set more than a decade after the events of the 2009 film, gives a glimpse into how the tranquil life of the Na'vi come under threat yet again.
Even years later, the splendour of Pandora does not seem to have lessened in the least, as viewers are treated to an awe inspiring tour of the planet in all of its glory. Apart from the crystal clear blue water and ethereal creatures, viewers also get to see glimpses of the life Jake and Neytiri have built for themselves, with their children. But their calm soon comes under threat, as the duo are faced with another devastating threat to their planet, which they must muster up the strength to fight against.

Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña reprise their roles as Jake and Neytiri respectively. The upcoming sequel also features Vin Diesel, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, Edie Falco, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Oona Chaplin and Jermaine Clement, among others, in pivotal roles as well.
James Cameron, who directed the first film, returns to direct the upcoming film as well, and has penned the screenplay along with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Cameron also serves as the film’s producer, along with Jon Landau.
To mark the sequel’s release this year, the first film had been re-released in theatres in September. The makers are planning on four standalone sequels to the film as well.
Avatar: The Way of Water will hit the big screen on December 16.
