As Atlee continues to expand his reach and influence as a director beyond the realms of Tamil cinema, he also seems focused on building a stellar portfolio as a producer.
Filmmaker Atlee is now basking in the global success of his previous movie Jawan . As he continues to expand his reach and influence as a director beyond the realms of Tamil cinema, he also seems focused on building a stellar portfolio as a producer.
Atlee has decided to team up again with Vijay Sethupathi but in a different capacity. According to industry sources, Atlee will bankroll Vijay Sethupathi's next movie under his home production banner 'A for Apple.' It's said that the project will be helmed by Balaji Dharanidharan, known for movies like Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom.
If reports are true, the upcoming project will mark Balaji's third collaboration in a row with Vijay Sethupathi. The actor-director duo earlier worked on Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Seethakaathi. The two movies were extremely distinct from each other.
The 2012 low-budget comedy-drama, Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, was inspired by real-life events about how a group of friends bend over backwards to save the wedding of a friend who suffered temporary memory loss. The 2018 Seethakaathi was a sobering take on the art of cinema, acting, and the transcending effects of storytelling.
It's also worth noting that Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom played a key role in cementing Vijay Sethupathi's position in the Tamil film industry during the early days of his career.
At the moment, we don't have many details about the project. Atlee is also producing his Bollywood film titled Baby John. The film, starring Varun Dhawan in the lead role, is a remake of his blockbuster movie Theri.
Atlee directed Vijay Sethupathi in Jawan. Headlined by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi played a textbook sociopathic villain in the action drama. The film went on to become a huge box office success, with more than Rs 1100 crore collected from its worldwide ticket sales.
