Asteroid City: When and Where to watch Wes Anderson's retro-futuristic comedy drama
Wes Anderson's quintessence promises to be on full display in Asteroid City, the new feature film that boasts an ensemble cast that only he could ever dream of pulling off.
What's described as a retro-futuristic endeavour that comprises every bit of Anderson's vibrancy, aesthetics and emotional depth, Asteroid City is all set for a widespread worldwide release following its much-discussed premiere at Cannes 2023.
The film stars the filmmaker's usual suspect Jason Schwartzman who plays the central character of war photographer Augie Steenbeck with Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Steve Carell and others, too, part of the cast.
When and Where to watch Asteroid City
Asteroid City, following its limited release in the United States on June 16, 2023, will arrive in cinemas in India on June 23, 2023. The comedy-drama releases in the 2D format in theatres and is expected to have a long theatrical run, before it debuts on OTT.
While reports speculate that the film will premiere in the month of August on the streaming platform 'Peacock' for the North American audience, there is no clarity as of yet on the chosen digital platform for Indian viewers.
An 'Andersonesque' experience
It is known already that Asteroid City is set in the 1950s in an eponymous fictional US town, one which becomes the epicentre of a lot of interesting activity as the drama unfolds. The meta-story put together by Anderson and Roman Coppola transpires during the famed Junior Stargazer convention which brings the desert town to life. Characters of all kinds arrive on the scene, relationships are forged and everything seems quite normal until an unprecedented event occurs - an alien pays Asteroid City a visit.
Robert Yeoman serves as the film's cinematographer with Barney Pilling editing the film. French composer Alexandre Desplat has scored the music.
