The first trailer of Asteroid City teases a classic Wes Anderson experience with the entire drama unfolding in the year 1955 in an eponymous fictional town.
Auteur Wes Anderson is back with his trademark high hues and fans are already dazzled by what he has in store. Asteroid City Anderson's 11th feature, brings together some of the most revered and talented names of Hollywood for a period expedition that involves make-shift cities, familial conundrums and, of course, aliens. Jason Schwartzmann returns for his seventh collaboration with Wes Anderson and he is joined by Oscar-winner Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis and several others.
The first trailer of Asteroid City teases a classic Wes Anderson experience with the entire drama unfolding in the year 1955 in an eponymous fictional town. The town, we are told, acquires its name because of a momentous meteorite impact that occurred on September 23, 3007 B.C. and the drama unfolds when a UFO and an alien arrive on the scene to make things more interesting. At the heart of all this is a family drama involving the widowed Jason Schwartzmann, his four children, his father (played by Tom Hanks), a famous actress (Johansson), the U.S. government and a whole range of vibrant characters.
If the aforementioned ensemble wasn't alluring enough, the cast of Asteroid City also includes Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Jeff Goldblum, and musician Jarvis Cocker.
Asteroid City won't be Wes Anderson's only release in 2023. Streaming giant Netflix will release the adventure comedy The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar which comes as the second Roald Dahl adaptation after the revolutionary 2012 stop-motion animation film Fantastic Mr. Fox. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Henry Sugar in The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar with Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, Rupert Friend and Richard Ayoade forming the rest of central cast.
As far as the release of Asteroid City is concerned, Focus Features is set to bring the film to the big screens on June 16, 2023 (in select theatres) which will be a much wider release on June 23.
