Asmee, the Telugu crime thriller starring Raja Narendra, Rushika Raj, Keshav Deepak and Indu in leading roles, made it to theatres across the Telugu states earlier this month on September 3. The dark love story, with a runtime of 95 minutes, is directed by first-time filmmaker Sesh Karthikeya and produced by Sneha Rakesh under Sachi Creations. The film, shot during the pandemic in 2020 in a record 16 days span, opened to positive reviews all over and has now landed on Amazon Prime Video.
The film revolves around the title character Asmee, an engineering graduate, abducted by a man who wrecks her life physically and psychologically. Many years after the kidnap, Asmee's free all of a sudden, only for her to realise that her parents are no longer alive, she doesn't have a home or a career. Asmee's friends come to her rescue and one of her college mates Siva even offers her to stay at his house. Asmee and Siva grow fond of each other through this phase and eventually get married.
However, when an unexpected guest arrives at their place one day, a shocking twist turns Asmee's world topsy turvy. The film is consistently gripping and has a riveting screenplay that leaves you surprised more often than not. The director Sesh Karthikeya manages to hold the attention of the audiences despite the majority of the film unfolding amidst four walls and three characters. Asmee may not have any familiar faces but for Keshav Deepak, and yet the lead actors do a credible job with the performances, making it a worthy watch on OTT.
