After Nithin Renji Panicker and Abhilash Joshiy, another director’s son is gearing up for his debut directorial. Shaji Kailas’ son Jagan is all set to helm his debut film, which will have Asif Ali in the lead.
The announcement came on the youngster's birthday recently. The movie, which will be scripted by Tamil-Malayalam writer B Jeyamohan, is expected to be produced by Shaji Kailas and could go on floors by next year. Jeyamohan, who has written the screenplay for movies such as 2.0, Ponniyin Selvan, Indian 2 and Sarkar, had previously worked with Asif Ali in Madhupal’s Ozhimuri. He has also written the script for 1 By Two and Kaanchi.
Jagan, meanwhile, had previously helmed a music video featuring Ahaana Krishna that was widely praised. He had also worked as an assistant director in his father’s recent films such as Kaapa, Alone and Kaduva, apart from assisting Nithin in Kaaval.
Asif Ali, meanwhile, is on a high following the success of his recent release – Kooman, which is directed by Jeethu Joseph. The movie, which is expected to drop on Amazon Prime Video next month, is an investigative thriller that also has Hannah Reji Koshy, Jaffer Idukki and Baburaj in pivotal roles.
Asif essayed the role of a constable with a fickle ego, who learns a skill to embarrass his superior officer. Things, however, go out of control when he becomes addicted to the highs that the adventure gives him.
The actor has also completed shooting for Sethu’s Maheshum Marutiyum, which has Mamta Mohandas as the female lead, and Nishanth Sattu’s A Ranjith Cinema. The actor is currently shooting for Mridhul Nair’s Kasargold, which is an action-thriller that also has Sunny Wayne as part of the cast. The actor’s next release will be Kaapa, which is a gangster-thriller featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Aparna Balamurali and Anna Ben.
