Asif Ali teams up with Captain director Prajesh Sen for Houdini – The King of Magic

Houdini marks Prajesh Sen’s first film without Jayasurya in the lead and has Kozhikode and Rajasthan as its main locations

Captain and Vellam director G Prajesh Sen’s fourth directorial titled Houdini – The King of Magic, will also be the filmmaker’s first movie without Jayasurya in the lead. The movie, which went on floors in Kozhikode on Wednesday, has Asif Ali essaying the role of the protagonist.

As its title suggests, the film, which is scripted and directed by Prajesh, will revolve around the world of magic. According to sources from the team, the movie delves into how magic influences a young man’s life and the incidents that consequently happen.

Asif Ali’s Houdini to be shot in Kerala and Rajasthan

Asif, who was promoting his upcoming release Kasargold in Kochi the past week, joined the sets of the new movie in Kozhikode on Wednesday. “Apart from Asif, the movie will also have some noted actors from Malayalam as well as Tamil,” said the source.

Incidentally, Asif will be returning to Rajasthan once again for the shoot of the movie. In the past three years, the actor has already shot for two movies in the State – Rajeev Ravi’s Kuttavum Shikshayum and Abrid Shine’s Mahaveeryar. While most of the film’s story happens in Kozhikode, a few portions will be shot in Rajasthan too, the source confirms.

The film also has composer Bijibal, cinematographer Noushad Sherif and editor Bijith Bala as part of its crew.

Asif Ali and Mridul Nair’s Kasaragold to release on September 15

Meanwhile, Asif Ali and director Mridul Nair, who had earlier teamed up for B Tech and were set to do a film together with Thattum Vellattom before the pandemic, joined hands for a crime-thriller for Kasaragold, which also has Sunny Wayne, Vinayakan, Deepak Parambol and Siddique. The movie will hit theatres on September 15.

Meanwhile, Asif has also completed shooting for A Ranjith Cinema , Kishkkinda Kandam and Otta, which marks the directorial debut of Oscar-winner Resul Pookkutty.
